Extend DVI KVM Over Your Network with MuxLab

2 min read

Modern IT and AV environments often require operators to access computers, servers, and workstations from a more convenient or centralized location.

Extending video alone is no longer enough—users may also need keyboard, mouse, USB peripherals, and audio to work seamlessly from the same workstation.

The MuxLab 500771 KVM DVI over IP PoE Extender provides a practical way to extend DVI video, USB KVM, and audio over an Ethernet LAN, using standard Cat5e/6 cabling. It supports distances of up to 100 meters, with resolutions up to 1920 × 1200 and 1080p at 60Hz.

KVM Connectivity Over Existing Ethernet Infrastructure

The 500771 consists of a Transmitter (500771-TX) and Receiver (500771-RX). The transmitter connects to a DVI-equipped computer or workstation, while the receiver connects to a DVI display and USB devices. The receiver provides a 4-port USB hub, supporting keyboard, mouse, and additional peripherals such as printers, drawing pads, storage devices, and cameras.

This makes the solution useful in environments where operators need to control computers located away from the physical display and input devices.

Designed for Distributed KVM Applications

One of the key advantages of the 500771 is its IP-based architecture. In addition to point-to-point configurations, it supports point-to-multipoint deployments over a Gigabit Ethernet network. A single Receiver can also be switched between multiple Transmitters using hotkey sequences, allowing one operator to manage multiple connected workstations.

This approach can help simplify workstation access in environments such as IT departments, data centers, CAD and graphic design facilities, media servers, and educational institutions.

PoE for Simplified Deployment

The 500771 supports IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) when connected to a compatible PoE Ethernet switch. This allows the Transmitter and Receiver to receive power through the network connection, helping reduce the need for separate power infrastructure at each endpoint. MuxLab also specifies an optional external 5V power supply, sold separately.

A Practical Solution for Professional AV and IT

With DVI extension, USB KVM, audio support, IP connectivity, and PoE, the MuxLab 500771 is designed for applications where reliable access to remote computers and servers is important without requiring a dedicated long-distance video cable between locations.

For organizations planning a KVM, control-room, data-center, or AV-over-IP deployment, the 500771 offers a straightforward way to integrate DVI-based systems into an Ethernet network.
